June 5th Sumner Brothers from Vancouver, BC. Like many of their heroes before them; Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt or Neil Young, their songs aim to pierce hearts and dig deep beneath the skin. It is this commitment to authenticity that first drew the brothers to the songs of country, folk and blues, to roots music. Somehow banjos, harmonicas and steel string guitars seem to lend themselves well to the notion of truth. These sounds coupled with the devastatingly low baritone of brother Brian, and the hauntingly sorrowful croon of brother Bob’s tenor, collide to form a sound, both unique and powerful (Sumner Brothers Official website http://www.thesumnerbrothers.com/Site/Home.html). |
August 27th, 2011, Saturday, 1 - 7 p.m. Local Musicians at the Winery Enjoy 6 hours of music and songs of Warren Sexsmith & Co., Tea Seas Little Big Band, Pacific High and others! Listen to our quest from Austin, Texas - Shawnee Kilgore ( 4.30 p.m ) "One of the most wonderfully gifted singer/songwriters I've ever heard..." says Eric Lichter of Dirt Floor Recording Studio. "She connects with her songs, like a punch in the stomach, but the pain is beautiful and you want more..." At the age of 29, Shawnee embodies an innocence and wonder and appreciation of the world that “grown-ups” often tend to lose, yet her music radiates a spirit of infinite wisdom and unconditional beauty. People who know her best would say that part of Shawnee’s gift of writing is to take the situations and life around her and weave them into an effortless tapestry of empathy and grace. She can take an entire relationship, boil it down to only its rawest essence, and humbly present it in the soft closing line of a gentle melodic journey. She left the northwest last october, finding herself a home away from home in Austin, Texas.

August 1st Carrie Elkin A troubadour in the most classic fashion, Elkin has ridden a Gypsy breeze of serendipity for the last ten years, landing for a time in Cleveland, Athens, Taos, Steamboat Springs, Colorado Springs and Boston, finally coming to settle in Austin, TX in the summer of 2007. It's exactly this sort of openness to the people and places that pass through her life, and to the opportunities that might emerge in every new and particular circumstance, that grew to become the central theme of this new album . . . and the very process by which Elkin somehow managed to find herself in the midst of some of Austin's finest musicians and producers, literally, within days of arriving in town. While already making quite a buzz around the Austin scene with her highly spirited and spontaneous performances, Elkin spends the majority of her time on the road still, touring nationally and in the UK and Europe.
August 22, Cabin Fever NW Bellingham, Washington has been keeping secrets. Coming out of the Northwest is a sound easily fits into the mountains of the Appalachian homeland where the music of Cabin Fever NW was birthed. The duo, Dianne Bochsler and Tara Wolfe, blend a love for mountain music, musical chops to match their influences and a knack for weaving contemporary themes into the story lines. The combination works great on ‘The Door Is Always Open’. Tales of love and loss, leaving and coming back home and social topics such as crime and punishment coexist over the bright joy of the backing instrumentation. Girl Power gets a mountain makeover on ‘Yellow Mustang’, our free download. This is music of the heart. No flash and very accessible. The band not only calls Washington home but claims its territory as its touring base across the Pacific Northwest. The pain of losing children to school was solved when the two met on their sons’ first day of pre-school. That was twelve years ago and Cabin Fever NW is still going strong. ‘The Door Is Always Open’ is the band third album. It mixes originals and traditional songs in a good balance. Imagine Simon and Garfunkel singing with Carter Family’s devotion. Danny McCloskey - The Alternate Root (Jul 11, 2009)

July 16 th,2011, Saturday, 6 p.m., Drew Nelson Drew grew up in Michigan, but escaped the narrow confines of his small-town, Midwestern upbringing by joining the Navy and traveling the world. He was able to see first-hand what was really happening in the world, and come home with fresh eyes to appreciate the realities of life in America. These experiences provided insight and understanding that have found an outlet in songs filled with discovery, revelation, and hope. Nelson is now expanding his love of music to the creation of the instruments he plays. He has just finished making his first guitar, and hopes to start a tradition of building and signing one a year to auction off for charity. In addition to giving back to us through his music, Nelson is involved in many community-based efforts to educate the next generation and make our world a better place to live. He lives what he writes. www.drewnelson.net/boozhoo/2010/02/17/drew-nelson-wins-best-local-song-album-of-the-year-at-2010-jammie-awards/
